Julie's Statement

I'm Julie Lythcott-Haims (she/they), and I'm running for re-election as a delegate for AD-23 on the North Star Progressive Democrat slate.

I'm Black, biracial, queer, and bisexual with a deep passion for equity and inclusion. My parents were public servants: My father was head of public health in the Carter Administration, and my mother was a teacher. They raised me to be a progressive Democrat, and I’ve been devoted to the cause since caucusing for Jesse Jackson back in the day when I was just sixteen.

I’ve dedicated my career to helping humans from all walks of life thrive. In my current role as a Palo Alto City Council Member, I am deeply concerned about our region's long-standing failure to address the housing shortage—a systemic issue that began decades ago. This scarcity has created unprecedented wealth for those who own homes while making it nearly impossible for countless others—young adults, seniors, working families, and more—to find a place to live. This crisis impacts all of us, and the Democratic party must summon the determination to create lasting change. 

I belong to the Peninsula Democratic Club, 21st Century Democrats Club, the Dean Democratic Club of Silicon Valley, and the Jewish Democratic Coalition of the Bay Area. In my campaigns in the last 2+ years, I’ve been endorsed by numerous elected officials, as well as DAWN, Elect Democratic Women, EMILY’s List, Higher Heights, Jewish Democratic Club of Silicon Valley, J-Street, LPAC, Moms Demand Action, National Women’s Political Caucus of Silicon Valley, Peninsula for Everyone, Peninsula Young Democrats, Planned Parenthood, REACH Alliance, Santa Clara County Democratic Party, Santa Clara County League of Conservation Voters, Silicon Valley Asian Pacific American Democratic Club, South Bay Labor Council, South Bay YIMBY, and YIMBY Action.
