Maryann's Statement

I am Maryann Moise, a North Star Progressive Democrat running for re-election in AD23. I am honored to have represented our district as a delegate, and I ask for your vote to continue. A lifelong Democrat who remembers being mocked as a teenager in 1968 for wearing a McCarthy for President button in Disneyland, I am the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee Southern Vice Chair, and a board member on the Coastside Democrats and Peninsula/South Bay YIMBY Action. 

My political work was built on a solid foundation of public service. From 2005 to 2022, I was a council member and mayor on the Portola Valley Town Council and a member of many governing boards and committees in San Mateo County including CCAG, One Shoreline and the SMC Library JPA. In these roles I helped put into practice policies and programs that advanced racial and economic justice, affordable housing, a shift to multimodal transportation, environmental sustainability including wildfire resilience and water conservation, and even the importance of poetry in our lives. Known for my ability to get things done under adverse circumstances, I bring a roll-up-your-shirt-sleeves approach and a steadfast belief in the core tenets of the California Democratic Party including the protection of civil rights, economic equity, celebration of immigrant and LGBTQ communities and the urgency of the climate crisis particularly in the wake of the catastrophic LA fires, all of which will be threatened in Trump’s America. 

Delegates are a diverse, passionate community working inside the state party--attending conventions and caucuses, helping shape the CADEM platform, voting for party officers, endorsing state and federal candidates, influencing party policies. For example, our North Star slate put forward over 11 bills for endorsement by the party on issues including minimum wage, climate change, police reform and mental health. 

In the coming months we must protect the marginalized groups who will be targeted by the new administration while also collectively figuring out how best to reach the voters who recently left the party. Committed to our core values and with a deeper understanding of the state party, I pledge to better represent your interests, working toward a stronger, more responsive and equitable California Democratic Party during these exigent times.
