Mohammad's Statement

Hello. My name is Mohammad Subeh and I’m running to represent you as your AD23 delegate alongside fellow grassroots leaders on the North Star Democrats slate. We have all witnessed the complete decay of principled leadership locally and nationally, especially in decisions relating to valuing and preserving human life anywhere and everywhere. We are frustrated and exhausted by the divide in what the people want and how our leaders vote, often swayed by financial interests. 

Having come to the US as a war refugee in 1990 and now serving humans from all walks of life as an ER doctor in the heart of Silicon Valley, I bear witness daily to the ever-growing gap in access to basic human rights - adequate healthcare, housing, education, nutrition - just to name a few. When we ensure access to all, we each live a dignified life, realize our individual potential, and collectively build a better world.

We're told that we can't keep all our schools open due to declining enrollment and budget deficits, while at the same time, billions of our tax dollars are being sent overseas to drop bombs on schools, universities, and hospitals. We're told that we don't have enough money to make a dent in homelessness, while at the same time, billions of our tax dollars are being sent overseas to make more people homeless. It's not just a question of resources. It's a question of priority. Our communities are being hollowed out, and instead of investing our tax dollars back into our own communities, we're sending it overseas.

We can and must fix this. Now is the time to course correct and bring back the voice of the people, front and center. 

Three critical changes needed now: (1) Ensure our tax dollars are invested efficiently back into our local community so we can thrive together, (2) yield back the power to the people instead of corporate interests and lobby groups by reforming campaign finance and directly engaging our communities, and (3) ensure our country no longer invests in war and killing humans, but instead “walks the walk” when it comes to upholding our fundamental values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

I’m running to be the voice for our community and ensure the Democratic Party represents us, the people. If you live in AD 23, I would be honored to receive your vote and represent you.
